There were always large family gatherings, usually a picnic. Here is one sometime in the late 1920's or early 1930's in Nebraska with the decedents of Johan Kirchner.

Our ancestors needed to write in pencil who individuals were on the back of their photographs for future generations. They knew who this was, unfortunately we do not!
